Love the idea, the execution, and the minimalist style of the site. Your writing is great and I am confident that, if you had control of the process of handpicking the writers for Assemblage, I will only find high-quality, thought provoking and genuine writing.

I was reading some of the blog posts and I’d like to suggest a few things that I thought about as a reader. I have no malicious intent and no interest in criticizing anything you are doing. I only wish that by making some observations and personal suggestions now, the platform will be better and flourish more in the future. But as I write this I realize that I am simply making these suggestions only to cater it to my reading experience. Maybe I’m being the picky one here, but I’d like to think that there are people who would agree with me on certain issues.

  • I find that I have to squint to see the text because of the text colors — if it could be a darker shade it would be a much better experience for the reader.
  • Maybe you can play around with different fonts? I’ve only realized how important of a part typography plays in increasing the viewing pleasure.
  • Would you be able to compress the width of the text box? It stretches a bit far and find it fairly uncomfortable to follow when the writing is stretched almost entirely from one end to the other.

I guess my issues were only with the design aspect — the other parts of the blog looks awesome and I like the idea of the platform being a unique portal. The fact that you’ve built a community off the site and onto Slack/Facebook is great. It really is hard to communicate with readers/writers frequently on Medium so instant communication platforms are very helpful.

Again, please take my suggestions with a grain of salt! I hope I don’t sound like I’m nitpicking, but I think simple design tweaks could make the platform 10x better. Rooting for you and your initiative, Jonathan.
